Arrest threat already costing DC hotel business

WASHINGTON – Even before the government closes down the potential, the hotels in Washington are feeling pain. Elliott Ferguson, director general of the Bureau of Tourism Destination DC, says there are already some contracts associated with the hotel business of government have been deleted. An event that could be affected is a major conference of Experimental Biology beginning Saturday at the Washington Convention Center. Ferguson says that for many business travelers, there is no reason to come to Washington if the federal government is not running. Hotel owners expect this to be a busy time of year with the start of the season and conventions. The cancellation may have a ripple effect on restaurants, airlines and other businesses. For tourists, Ferguson says there are still many things to see in the nation’s capital, even if the museums are closed on federally funded.
